Kirk Gauthier Mothman and the Thunderbirds do a great job writing original tunes that are both fun and engaging, but they also do a great job of breathing new life into tried and true classics. I’m not familiar with the music of CKY, but I can hear the parts of this single that are a tribute to them and other parts that are distinctly that of Mothman and the Thunderbirds. Because that’s what a cover song should be, right? Both an homage and an original.

Sleeping Villager Regardless of whether or not you hold the original track in the the same nostalgic shrine dedicated to the MTV/Pro Skater aesthetic of the very early aughts, this cover is worth your while. Mothman and the Thunderbirds has improved on the original solely by benefit of intriguing and climatic composition, and the stellar musicianship and production don't hurt either. As an homage and a reinvention, it is excellent.

©ough©ool Love campkillyourself, but you covering 96 bb? Fucking classic. The bridge is an improvement on the original, by far, so much heavier & so much more eerie on the soft singing part

Tom's Reviews I really love it when a band covers something that I've never heard the original of. I always go back and check out the original, and when that pales in comparison to the cover, I know that the cover version improved upon its influence. This is one of those covers, and it's bad ass!!

about

Mothman and The Thunderbirds are proud to announce the upcoming release of their cover of the CKY classic “96 Quite Bitter Beings”. What starts as a relatively straight-forward cover goes off the rails halfway through, and then lands at a stunning final bridge. The song will be available on all streaming platforms on September 28th.

For this cover, Mothman and The Thunderbirds bandleader Alex Parkinson enlisted the skills of Russian prog musician Egor Lappo for production duties. “While I enjoyed producing my debut album Into the Hollow, I figured it was time to take my sound to the next level,” said Alex when asked about hiring Egor for production, mixing, and mastering.

Speaking on the origins of the cover, Alex had this to say: "Growing up in Delco in the 2000’s, this song was inescapable. I’ve always wanted to do a cover given how much I love that riff, and I think I’ve finally arranged a version that does this classic justice."
